Mum & Daughter Duo: We get mistaken for TWINS!

We wrote Geeta and Malissa's story for The Sunday Mirror and they were thrilled on #publicationday Have you got a feel-good story? Email story@tellandsellstories.co.uk

  • Geeta and Malissa are mum and daughter but get called twins and sisters all the time.

  • Aged 45 and 20, Geeta is more than double Malissa’s age, but she puts her youthful looks down to good genes.

  • Mum Geeta loves being told she looks so young and the pair often play along – even once being mistaken for a couple on holiday!

  • And their roles have also been known to switch – with Malissa giving her own mother relationship advice and being a shoulder to cry on.

They may be a generation apart, but this mum and daughter are mistaken for being sisters wherever they go.

The youthful pair who have also been mistaken for twins love it when they are compared, and don’t shy away from dressing in similar clothing – they share their wardrobes with each other.

Single mum Geeta, 45, and daughter Malissa, 20, go on holidays together, go out to bars and restaurants together, the gym, long walks with their dog, and even clubbing together. The duo are also known to switch roles, with Malissa giving her mum relationship advice – telling her a man was no good for her - and being a shoulder to cry on after break-ups.

Genetically blessed Geeta says getting mistaken for someone in their 20s never gets old: “We love confusing people by saying we’re sisters. It’s great fun, especially on nights out and on holiday. When we were abroad once holding hands, someone said what a lovely couple we made. That was a new one!”

Geeta adds: “I’m lucky I have such good genes. My dad is in his 70s but looks in his 50s!"

It all started when Malissa was 16, when she started to look more and more like her mum. When she was wearing make-up and her hair was the same length, she and her mum looked even more like sisters or best friends.

Geeta says: “From day one, Malissa has loved it. I used to pick her up from places and she told me everyone would say, ‘Your mum is so cool’. But I suppose there are times when she’s not so keen, like when I’ve had 20-year-old boys chatting me up and she’s come into the conversation and said ‘Ewww that’s my mum!'"

Malissa says: “It’s so strange yet funny when really young boys are hitting on my mum. She’s literally in her 40’s and kids my age think she’s younger. At first I’m in shock, then I tell them ‘she’s 45’ and then laugh with Mum. It’s actually really hilarious. I love that we are mistaken for sisters! She’s like my mum, sister and best friend all rolled into one.”
